Best and Cheapest WordPress Hosting in 2022 — Our Story

Best Cheapest WordPress Hosting

This post is a roundup of WordPress best and cheapest hosting. It’s not about figures and uptimes and it doesn’t compare hosting plans in any way. There are already a lot of articles which give star ratings based on this or that.

Instead, this article is about my personal, subjective feelings when it comes to hosting companies that ThematoSoup used over the years. I hope you find it useful so feel free to jump into the discussion and share how you feel about your hosting.

I’ll update it every so often so it reflects the best and cheapest hosting services tested here by ThematoSoup. It will help you start your WordPress blog or upgrade the existing one to a better dedicated corporate or eCommerce hosting solution.

Hosting is an integral part of every online presence; everything that makes your WordPress website resides on the servers of your preferred hosting company. The following web hosts are, in my opinion, best for the money. They are some of the most popular hosting companies for the WordPress platform that we’ve used for hosting our own website.

The companies listed below all have managed WordPress hosting plans and dedicated support staff that know their way around WordPress. But, whichever hosting plan you choose, shared or managed, you’ll have a good foundation for your WordPress online presence.

Namecheap Hosting

Best Cheap WordPress Hosting, Namecheap

Namecheap is a really cheap hosting platform, but it is able to deliver a good quality domain registrar and shared hosting services. It’s really hard to beat them in the price/quality ratio category.

ThematoSoup plans on moving to Namecheap servers next month, so I’ll write a comprehensive review of their services and customer support. We currently have some less demanding websites with them and we’ve had zero issues so far.

You can choose between two of their data centers which are located in the US and UK, depending on where your traffic comes from (America or Europe). The cheapest of their plans give you up to 20GB SSD space, unlimited bandwidth, and three sites.

SiteGround

SiteGround, Best Cheap WordPress Hosting

ThematoSoup used to run on SiteGround. They’ve been very consistent and we’ve had zero issues with them. Some of their plans and extra features can get a little pricey, but that is easily justified by their quality of service. The WordPress plans offer free site transfers, they support Git on higher plans and include their own SuperCacher tool (WordPress plugin) to manage your website caching and improve your page speed.

WordPress fans are fond of SiteGround because they offer a great mix of advanced WordPress features, low prices, and decent speeds. This makes it a good all-around choice for any type of WordPress user, and especially if you value your websites working with no hiccups while still running on cheap WordPress hosting.

WP Engine

WP Engine, fastest WordPress managed hosting

WP Engine calls the entry-level plan – Startup. It’s for bloggers and startup companies who want a solid, stable hosting service without the need to configure or adjust things to get started. They install WordPress automatically for you. You’ll just get a simple email with your credentials and that’s it.

You’ll be able to have just one WordPress installation and handle up to 25,000 monthly visits, which is more than enough. Their service is great, but their customer support could be better since there are times when they’re not the most responsive bunch.

Flywheel

Flywheel WordPress Hosting

Flywheel website is so pretty, I go there once in a while just to treat my eyes with something beautiful. You can see that their attention to detail is amazing. They’re on the pricier side, but they offer some nice speed and stability.

The other great feature is that they offer demo content and one-click staging features. Their hosting solutions offer automatic backups, built-in caching service, content delivery network, SSL support and many other things.

We also use their local WordPress development tool, which you may find extremely easy to start developing your own websites offline.

Bluehost

BlueHost, Cheap WordPress Hosting

Bluehost is one of the WordPress.org official hosting solutions. We’ve never used their services for ThematoSoup or for any of our clients, but I’ve seen a lot of praise among the fellow WordPressers lately, so I do plan on checking them out.

There are some very cheap WordPress hosting options here (shared WordPress hosting plan). But, you should be aware that they don’t offer a monthly package and you’ll need to commit to a 12-month plan with BlueHost.

If you decide to try their services, please share your experience with us. I’ve heard from colleagues that their customer support is timely and friendly.

DreamHost

DreamHost, Best All-around Hosting

DreamHost has been around for some time and they offer some affordable shared hosting plans, but they also offer dedicated WordPress hosting solutions, SSDs, and their custom Website Builder, should you want to build a website on your own.

WordPress installation is a breeze and their interface is very easy to navigate. You can easily reach their customer support via chat and resolve most of the issues that way and I think their hosting service is worth the money they’re asking.

Media Temple

Media Temple, Managed WordPress Hosting

In the early days of ThematoSoup, we used Media Temple. Their focus has always been on WordPress based websites and we liked that idea. It meant that if we ever had a problem with how our WordPress company website worked, they’d know where to look for the problem. Quick diagnosis means a quick and painless solution.

This WordPress host will not let you down, whichever plan you decide to use. Just a heads-up if you decide to check them out, they call their shared hosting plans — Grid Hosting. They do tend to update and change things often on their platform. Some of you may see it as a good thing, but others may not appreciate frequent changes.

2019 update: ThematoSoup is currently running on Namecheap and even though we’ve had a couple of hiccups (due to our own mistakes), the staff have been super-helpful in resolving them.

When you pair it with Cloudflare, you can expect some nice results in terms of server response time and reliability.

Hosting is an integral part of every online presence; everything that makes your WordPress website resides on the servers of your preferred hosting company. If you’re looking to host a very simple website or just wish to learn some development there are plenty of free WordPress hosting providers around. The following web hosts are, in my opinion, best for the money. They are the most popular hosting companies for the WordPress platform that we’ve tested in the past.

If there’s a hosting company that didn’t make the list, it’s because we’ve never had any experience with it and we don’t want to suggest you a service we’ve never dealt with.

If you have a different experience with any of the listed WordPress hosting solutions, please share that with us, so we can set the record straight.

  1. Hey, I read some your post and I found that really helpful to me thanks for sharing such a wonderful content and I also bookmarked your blog. So, from today I will be your regular reader. And I really appreciate your writing skills and really enjoyed your content keep up the good work and have a good day.

  2. Actually, I am planning to change my hosting and I am confused between Bluehost and SiteGround. I am new in this thing so can you please suggest me which one is better?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Alex,

Either will work for your website. I’ve used SiteGround in the past and it’s a very reliable hosting solution with outstanding support. They have servers in Europe, Asia and North America, so you can select which one you want to use based on your audience.

Bluehost, I’ve never tried, but I don’t remember hearing anything bad about them. Last time I checked they had only yearly plans, but they offer a 30-day money back guarantee, so you’ll be able to withdraw if you don’t find them speedy or their customer support unresponsive.

I’d suggest trying SiteGround first. They’re a really solid hosting solution.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Hello Dragan Nikolic,

Thank you so much for your response.

As you have suggest to trying SiteGround first then I will go with this.

        Thank you so much.

        1. My pleasure, Alex. Feel free to ask their (SiteGround and Bluehost) support questions before you purchase any of their plans. See how responsive they are. Ask them to transfer your website for free and everything else you might think of.

Customer support is the most important thing when it comes to hosting, so test it before you commit ;)

All the best with Mattress Touch.
